Oak Seedling

Oak Seedling in Spring
Oak Seedling in Spring

In Melick Wood we have mature oaks and we have tiny oaks, but none in between.  This is probably due to deer browsing, there being three species of deer in the wood: roe, fallow and muntjac.

Oaks are vulnerable to the likely dry summers that climate change will bring, but we would still like to plant a few young ‘uns.

In the meantime David has caged a few of the tiny oaks that have self-seeded, in an attempt to keep them safe.
