Melick Wood is situated amidst the wider area of Warleigh Woods in the Avon valley. The woods were painted in the mid 19th century by John Joseph Barker, an artist well-known in the Bath area.

Bath’s Victoria Art Gallery own the painting but it is only occasionally in the public gallery due to space constraints.  In May, their helpful curator Phoebe took us into the basement for a close look to see if we could work out which bit of woods it depicted.

This was of course an optimistic hope, but we like to think the painting shows the flat bit of track that runs alongside Melick Wood!
