This is a bender frame made of hazel withies.  Each rod was poked into the ground and bent over to twist around its opposite number in the shape of a dome.  We built this little version to test the optimum diameter of hazel for flexibility and strength.   Now we know which ones to pick out during coppicing.   When we’ve built a good-sized bender we’ll cover it in tarp and use it as a rain shelter.
