Green fingers?

Stag's horn fungus
Stag’s horn fungus

Xylaria hypoxylon (fungus that grows under the wood) is known as candlesnuff fungus or stag’s horn fungus.  The black branches have white tips.

In a really dark place it can be seen to emit light as phosphorus accumulated within the mycelium reacts with oxygen. The bioluminescence is faint and to see it clearly you need to be in woodland with minimal light pollution.  Even then a long-exposure photograph may be needed.

Trying to take a few pictures of ghostly green fungus fingers sounds like a suitable activity this halloween night.  Wait for updates!
