One expects to be stalked by a robin (Erithacus rubecula) in the allotment or the garden, but these birds turn up even in the depths of a wood.  Humans are just another large mammal than might disturb the soil and reveal something wriggly and tasty!

The average life expectancy of a robin is one year, but they may live up to 19 years.

There are many folk tales explaining the robin’s red breast, including the idea that a singing robin comforted Jesus on the cross and was thus stained by his blood.
