Wood Rush

After an hour puzzling over the Collins Complete Guide to British Wild Flowers we have chosen to identify this plant as southern wood rush (Luzula forsteri).

At first we though it was wood melick, which we have not yet found despite the wood being named by the agent for melick!  Wood melick however is 50cm+ tall whereas this tiny plant is not more than 10cm tall.

We decided on southern wood rush over field wood rush as it is growing in a shady situation under hazel coppice.
