Also known as yellow deadnettle, archangel can hybridise with variegated garden varieties. The one pictured (on a grassy bank) seems to have the original green-leaved form.

Its Latin name Lamium galeobdolon means “gaping-mouthed flower like a weasel” as supposedly the crushed leaf smell is reminiscent of weasel.

The flower has the bilateral symmetry common in bee-pollinated flowers and the lower lip has exotic-looking runway markings to act as a nectar guide.
