This variable longhorn beetle (Stenocorus meridianus) was a sizeable 3cm long.

These beetles vary in their yellow/red/brown/black coloration.  They tend to be found on woodland edges as the larvae eat the wood of damaged deciduous trees but the adults need the pollen of  flowers.

They are known as clumsy flyers.  This one eventually blundered off into a sunny glade.
