Insulators
Insulators

You find interesting stuff kicking about in the autumn leaves in the wood.  These are a set of insulators from now dismantled electricity pylons.

Our wood documentation contains the “Owners Consent for Lines with Masts or Towers” signed by Miss ADM Skrine of Warleigh for the Electricity Boad in 1930 for a line from Bath to Melksham.   In post-war maps the route travels north of the woods in a straight line across the Avon valley from Claverton to Farleigh Wick and beyond.  The subsequent route shown on OS maps from 1958/59 zigs across the corner of Warleigh Wood which corresponds to the location of the insulators.

The cables now travel under the wood, the exact route is not known according to the solicitor searches.
