These ferns would appear to meet the dictionary definition of epiphyte:

“a plant that grows on another plant, especially one that is not parasitic, such as the numerous ferns, bromeliads, air plants, and orchids growing on tree trunks in tropical rainforests.”

Found not in tropical rainforest, but on an oak tree in a damp corner of our neighbours’ wood in temperate deciduous woodland.
